About the Worldwide Center of Mathematics
Q: What is the Worldwide Center of Mathematics?
A: The Worldwide Center of Mathematics was founded in 2008 by David B. Massey, an award-winning professor with 26 years of collegial teaching experience, and a leading research mathematician in the field of singularities. The purpose of the Center is to promote and disseminate mathematical materials for all levels to help increase the knowledge of the community as a whole.
Q: What are the products and services the Worldwide Center of Mathematics offers?
A: The Worldwide Center of Mathematics currently has a wide range of offerings including writing and producing video-textbooks and custom video lectures, hosting and recording research-level lectures, and writing and promoting our first academic journal, the Journal of Singularities.
Q: Are there any job or internship opportunities available at the Worldwide Center of Mathematics?
A: We are always accepting applications for qualified individuals for future positions as well as internship opportunities. Please forward a copy of a résumé with a cover letter to info@centerofmath.org .
Q: Can you donate to the Worldwide Center of Mathematics?
A: We happily accept donations through PayPal by going to http://www.centerofmath.org/support.html and the clicking on the “Donate” tab. Donations help us to accomplish our mission of continuing to spread mathematical knowledge to the community as a whole.
Worldwide Center of Mathematics Textbooks
Q: What textbooks does the Worldwide Center of Mathematics offer?
A: We currently have two books available “Worldwide Differential Calculus” and “Worldwide Integral Calculus with Infinite Series.”
Q: What new releases do you have planned for the future?
We have a few new releases scheduled in the coming year and we are in talks with authors regarding new titles. The schedule for the planned textbooks are as follows:
- An Introduction to Statistics: Think and Do by Scott Stevens (Fall 2011)
- Worldwide Multivariable Calculus by David B. Massey (Winter 2011)
- Worldwide College Algebra (in talks Winter 2012)
- Worldwide Differential Equations (in talks Winter 2012)
Q. Will there be a book that is tailored to the AP exam released?
A. Yes! We are currently exploring how to best combine the content from “Worldwide Differential Calculus” and “Worldwide Integral Calculus with Infinite Series” into one book that is more geared toward the AP (both AB & BC) exam.
Q: Will tech support be available for our class for the textbooks?
A: We are committed to supporting faculty and students for all of our current and future textbooks and all of our video lectures. Simple questions can be answered through email, and phone support is available by our staff at 617-245-0171.
Other Worldwide Center of Mathematics Service Offerings
Q: Are there licensing opportunities for “Worldwide Differential Calculus” and the other future books in the Worldwide series?
A: The Worldwide Center of Mathematics licenses the source files to mathematics departments so that they can customize the textbook as they desire. For example, if you needed some sections from the “Worldwide Integral Calculus With Infinite Series” book to be integrated into the “Worldwide Differential Calculus” book to fulfill curriculum requirements, we would be happy to accommodate you in that regard. If you would like more information about licensing, please contact us at info@centerofmath.org .
Q: What are these apps I am hearing about?
A: We are glad you have heard of them! We recently released two applications for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod that are study guides for Calculus I & II. They are available in the Apple app store for $0.99 each!
Q: Can we record our own lectures to accompany the textbooks you offer?
A: Of course! We specialize in recording and editing lectures, and making them available online. If you would like more information on recording your own lectures please contact us at info@centerofmath.org .
Q: How does recording your own lectures work?
A: The Worldwide Center of Mathematics is located in Cambridge, MA and has a full-scale digital recording classroom to record and produce single lectures as well as entire course. Please contact us about scheduling at info@centerofmath.org .
Q: Your recording classroom studio looks great. Is it possible to rent out the space for classes, lectures, or other events?
A: Yes it is! When we are not hosting our research lectures or filming our videos for the textbooks, the space is almost always free. It would be an excellent place to host a class, lecture, or even an academic discussion. Please contact us if you would be interested in renting the space at info@centerofmath.org .
Q: As the Center grows, do you plan to add any more services or product offerings for the community?
A: In the future we plan to offer test-preparation booklets, tutoring services, postdoctoral research positions, and much more.
Worldwide Center of Mathematics Research
Q: How often do you have research lectures?
A: While our schedule of research lectures can vary, we usually host lectures on a monthly basis. Our monthly newsletter will list upcoming talks and events held at the Worldwide Center of Mathematics.
Q: Will there be any more Worldwide journals besides the Journal of Singularities?
A: In the future we plan on developing more Worldwide journals, but we are focusing on singularities at the moment, but please check back soon for updates or sign up for our monthly newsletter.
